Northern Michigan University

Student Designer

2024-2026

During my two years as a graphic designer for NMU, I had the opportunity to create work across a wide range of mediums, including social media, recruitment campaigns, publications, illustrations, and campus branding. Each project challenged me to think strategically while adapting to brand regulations, and client needs.

Creative Process

Research:

Research is the foundation of every project I take on. Before designing, I explore the client’s goals, audience, and visual inspiration.

Design Process:

This is where my ideas began to take shape. During my time at NMU, I spent countless hours filling a wall-to-wall whiteboard with concepts, layouts, and quick iterations. This daily habit shaped my growth as a designer.

Northern Notes
(Creative Director)

The Northern Notes notebook began as a simple concept inspired by the look of an audio cassette tape. I wanted it to feel nostalgic well being distinctly NORTHERN.

This idea ended up expanding into a billboard campaign, showing how a playful concept can grow well beyond its original purpose.

As the lead designer for the International Programs, I created a pocket notebook meant to welcome students from around the world.

I wanted the design to feel practical but also inviting, making it easier for NMU students to transition from Northern’s campus to campuses around the world!

My Time At Northern

Looking back, my time at Northern Michigan University was about growth. From switching paths into design, to learning through critique to taking on projects that truly challenged me like the 27-foot workout mural. Along the way, mentors like Tom Adolph and Mike Forrester, and peers like Christian Fitch helped shape how I think and create to this day. Those experiences gave me confidence, collaboration skills, and a drive to make work that feels meaningful and lasting. I truly can’t say enough good things about NMU!
